Desert Dreams Collection
One of the most important traditions of original peoples that has largely disappeared in modern times is that of the rite of passage, a trial by means of which an adolescent may pass into adulthood. This process unfolds in very different ways specific to each people, but one of our favorite traditions belongs to the Indian tribes of the Western United States — that of the vision quest. This quest requires the seeker to pray and fast without food or water for days, in complete isolation, in order to commune with the spirit world and obtain a vision from a guardian spirit that may endow them with protection, wisdom, or power. The process is also intended to help the initiate understand their oneness with all of life, as well as their place in the community and natural world. This understanding is often aided by the discerning wisdom of the tribe's holy man or woman. Our Desert Dreams collection is inspired by our own experiences with Indian tribes in the American Southwest and hopes to inspire all who seek to learn to communicate with the unseen benevolent forces all around us.
